Riots in 1946 Pre-Partition India and Pakistan
4) The
aftermath of a pitched battle on the Upper Circular Road during the
Calcutta Riots, 17th August 1946. The riots, also known as Direct Action
Day or The Week of the Long Knives, resulted from clashes between
Hindus and members of the Muslim League demanding a separate homeland.
